Insurance Ireland 30th anniversary events

As part of their 30th anniversary celebrations, Insurance Ireland are hosting celebration events and a partner programme in the week of the conference, which you can register for below. For more information on the Insurance Ireland events, see the dedicated website.

Connemara and cliffs | The wild atlantic way
Monday and Tuesday 23 and 24 May 2016

On day one we depart from The Double Tree Hotel then head out to the west of Ireland, where you will see the Irish countryside with its rolling hills and green pastures. As we drive through the midlands, keep an eye out for tower houses/castles on the way, built by the Irish gentry and Normans alike, serving as cold, damp places of refuge in times of uncertainty. Also notice the lie of the land – see how it changes as you travel across the country: The more west you go, the wilder it gets – welcome to the wild, wild West! Following an overnight stop at the Connaught Hotel Galway, on day two the tour departs from the hotel to drive through scenic Connemara, made famous in the Michel Sardou song, “Les lacs de Connemara”, and take you through the glaciated Inagh Valley with reflections of the Twelve Bens (mountain peaks) on the dark lakes, Scottish blackhead sheep grazing along the road, and logs of cut turf that is being dried for the fireplace neatly stacked around the countryside.

The tour will leave in the morning on Monday 23 May and return on Tuesday 24 May at 17h00. For those wishing to return earlier, there is an option on the booking form for a lunchtime return on Tuesday 24 May.

Price: €225 per person sharing or €250 per individual person participating.

Silverfinch

Silverfinch, part of the MoneyMate Group, was born out of an initiative with Europe’s fund management industry groups to help companies cope with an expected inundation of requests for information from insurers to meet their regulatory reporting requirements under the new Solvency II regulations; a key requirement of the rules due to come into effect in 2016 is for insurers to identify underlying holdings in any funds they own. Silverfinch allows fund managers to seamlessly and cost-effectively service their insurance clients’ needs, while also providing information to fund managers about their clients and the ways they invest in their funds. Silverfinch makes sure that only clients nominated by the fund managers can access sensitive information on holdings. Unlike data vendors, our fund manager partners retain full control over their information. See website for more information.

Insurance  Regulatory Capital (IRC) offers subordinated debt as a capital solution to mid-sized insurance companies. Sub debt is eligible as regulatory capital under Solvency II and is specifically constructed to be a hybrid instrument between debt and equity.  As such, insurance companies receive all the benefits of debt (tax deductible, fixed rate, long term but finite) without the drawbacks of equity (dilution of control, expensive, high administration, non-flexible).  In addition, under new Solvency II guidelines sub debt instruments are designed to alleviate financial pressure in times of stress.  With the Solvency II deadline looming demand for subordinate debt is increasing rapidly. IRC’s subordinated debt product is tailored to match the requirements set out in the regulations for Tier 2 capital under Solvency II. See website for more information.
