Concerns raised on services e-card proposal at European Parliament hearing
Insurance Europe took part in a recent European Parliament hearing on the European Commission’s proposal for a European services e-card.
Nicolas Jeanmart, head of personal insurance, general insurance and macroeconomics at Insurance Europe presented the insurance industry’s concerns about the insurance provisions in the services e-card proposal.
His three central messages were that:
- Insurance is not a barrier to cross border service provision. This is important to point out, because the insurance provisions of the proposal are predicated on this misconception.
- The insurance provisions would not achieve the proposal’s aim to help facilitate cross border service provision, because they are essentially unworkable.
- The provisions would be extremely complex and expensive to implement.
His speech is available here, and a further supporting document is available here.
