The European Union is advancing the Savings and Investments Union (SIU) with the objective of mobilising European savings, strengthening capital markets, and supporting investment in Europe’s long-term economic priorities. Ensuring that savings are effectively channelled into productive investment will be essential to finance innovation, infrastructure, and the green and digital transitions.
Insurers already play a central role in helping build an inclusive, competitive and resilient Savings and Investments Union. They contribute to inclusion by facilitating access to long-term savings and retirement products, to competitiveness by providing patient capital for innovation and growth, and to resilience by supporting financial stability and long-term security for households and economies.
Looking ahead to the mid-term review of the SIU expected in 2027, this event will take stock of progress achieved to date and identify priorities for the next phase. In particular, it will explore how insurers can further contribute to financing Europe’s investment needs, deepening capital markets, and strengthening retirement security.
