The European insurance prudential framework has evolved significantly over recent decades, most notably through the development and implementation of Solvency II. It is now entering a new phase, marked by initiatives such as the Insurance Recovery and Resolution Directive (IRRD), discussions on Insurance Guarantee Schemes (IGS), and the continued development of Level 2 and Level 3 measures.
At a time when policymakers are increasingly focused on competitiveness, simplification and the mobilisation of long-term investment, it is important to reflect on whether the cumulative evolution of the prudential framework continues to strike the right balance between resilience, policyholder protection and the ability of insurers to support growth and the broader economy.
Against this background, we are pleased to host a discussion bringing together senior policymakers, supervisors and industry representatives to reflect on the achievements and lessons of Solvency II and explore how future prudential initiatives can strike the right balance between competitiveness, resilience and policyholder protection.
