Insurance Europe has today, together with the European social partners in the Insurance Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee (ISSDC), signed a joint declaration on the attractiveness of the insurance sector.
The declaration underlines the vital role the European insurance sector plays in society by providing financial security, supporting social cohesion, managing risk and contributing to long-term stability for individuals, businesses and communities. It also highlights the sector’s shared ambition to remain responsible, sustainable, innovative and inclusive, while attracting, retaining and developing a motivated, engaged and empowered workforce.
Commenting on the joint declaration, Sebastian Hopfner, chair of Insurance Europe’s social dialogue platform and of the employer's delegation in the ISSDC, said: “Insurance plays an essential role in people’s lives and in Europe’s economy, and that should also be reflected in how the sector is seen as an employer. With this joint declaration, the European social partners reaffirm their shared commitment to an insurance sector that is attractive, innovative and inclusive, and that offers high-quality jobs and strong career and growth opportunities.”
Michael Budolfsen, President of UNI Europa Finance, welcomed the signing: “Constructive social dialogue remains a cornerstone of the European social model. Today we show that innovation and social responsibility must go hand in hand.”
The declaration highlights several factors that contribute to the attractiveness of the sector, including the purposeful nature of insurance work, diverse career opportunities, strong employment terms and high-quality working conditions. It also recognises the importance of competitive compensation and benefits, work-life balance, continuous learning, clear career pathways, and healthy and safe workplaces.
The European social partners also underline the transformative potential of AI and digital tools for customer service and innovation. Through strong social dialogue, proactive upskilling and a focus on job augmentation, the sector has managed the digital transition in a socially responsible way. The European social partners commit to continuing this approach, ensuring that digital transformation puts social responsibility at the center.
The ISSDC is the European-level forum in which insurance employer and employee representatives discuss topics of common interest with the support of the European Commission. The employer delegation comprises Insurance Europe, BIPAR and AMICE, while Uni-Europa Finance represents the employee delegation. Insurance Europe is an active member of the ISSDC and leads the employer delegation.
