Clemens Jungsthöfel, Chief Executive Officer of Hannover Re, has been appointed Chair of Insurance Europe’s Reinsurance Advisory Board (RAB) for the 2026–2027 period. Philippe Meyenhofer, Chief Executive Officer of PartnerRe, has been appointed Vice-Chair.
Jungsthöfel succeeds Dr Thomas Blunck of Munich Re, having served as the RAB’s Vice-Chair during 2025–2026. RAB members thanked Blunck and the Munich Re team for their leadership and contribution to the Board’s work over the past year. The transition follows the leadership arrangements discussed by RAB members in 2025, when Jungsthöfel indicated his intention to move from Vice-Chair to Chair for 2026–2027.
Clemens Jungsthöfel has been Chief Executive Officer of Hannover Re since April 2025, having previously served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer from 2020. Before joining Hannover Re, he held senior roles at HDI Global and KPMG, where he advised insurance and reinsurance companies.
Jungsthöfel commented, “I am honoured to take on the role of Chair of the Reinsurance Advisory Board. As financial shock absorbers, reinsurers play a vital role in helping societies manage risk and build resilience in an increasingly complex world. Together with my fellow RAB members, I look forward to strengthening collaboration across our industry and advancing understanding of the essential role reinsurance plays for society and the economy.”
Philippe Meyenhofer has served as Chief Executive Officer of PartnerRe since April 2024. He joined PartnerRe in 2010 and has held a range of diverse leadership positions across its global specialty and property and casualty businesses.
Meyenhofer added, “I am pleased to serve as Vice-Chair and to advance the RAB’s strategic priorities and advocate on behalf of our industry. Reinsurance has an important role in helping markets manage and transfer risk, and I look forward to working with Clemens and the Board to address challenges affecting the reinsurance market and identify opportunities to strengthen our industry and support its continued growth.”
The appointments come as the RAB begins its 2026–2027 work programme. The proposed engagement strategy continues to focus on policy, market access and education, with greater prioritisation of practical market-access work and high-level stakeholder engagement.
The Reinsurance Advisory Board is represented at chair and CEO level by seven of the world’s leading reinsurers: Gen Re, Hannover Re, Lloyd’s, Munich Re, PartnerRe, SCOR, and Swiss Re. Insurance Europe provides the RAB’s secretariat. The RAB works to promote regulatory frameworks that support a stable and competitive reinsurance market and enable efficient global risk transfer through both traditional reinsurance and insurance-linked capital solutions.
