Insurance Europe joins business community in call for ambitious EU tax simplification

Today

Insurance Europe has joined 23 business, financial and professional associations in calling on EU Member States to maintain the ambition of the European Commission’s Tax Simplification Package as negotiations progress.

The joint statement, Europe Cannot Prosper Under The Weight Of Unnecessary Complexity, argues that tax simplification will be an important test of Europe’s commitment to improving competitiveness and reducing unnecessary administrative burdens. The proposed measures could save European businesses around €8 billion each year, freeing resources currently absorbed by complexity rather than investment and growth.

The associations stress that simpler rules do not mean weaker tax enforcement. Instead, they call for a tax framework that is coherent, avoids duplication and contributes to the European Commission’s commitment to reduce administrative burdens by at least 25% for companies and 35% for SMEs.

The statement calls on Member States to reach agreement on the package while ensuring that its original simplification ambition is preserved throughout the negotiations.
