Insurance Europe has published a new paper, Infrastructure Investment and Insurance: Insurers’ Role in Financing Long-Term Growth, examining how insurers can help close Europe’s infrastructure investment gap. The paper is part of Insurance Europe’s Investing from insurers’ perspective series.
Europe faces an unprecedented infrastructure investment challenge, and public resources cannot meet this need alone. As major institutional investors and providers of patient capital, with approximately €9.5 trillion in assets under management, insurers are uniquely positioned to finance strategic EU infrastructure. However, the key constraint is often not the availability of long-term capital, but the availability of sufficiently large, investment-ready projects.
Insurance Europe makes a number of recommendations to the European Commission that can help increase private-capital participation in resilient European infrastructure, including through public-private partnerships (PPPs), and a European Infrastructure Deal.
