Partnership European Youth Parliament

Supporting dialogue between young people and the insurance sector across Europe

Insurance Europe and the European Youth Parliament (EYP) are working together to bring young people into the conversation on financial literacy, risk and insurance. Since the partnership began in 2024, it has created space for open dialogue between young people and the insurance sector across Europe. In 2026, the partnership continues with a strong focus on financial literacy.

Why this partnership matters

Young people already face real-life decisions about money, risk and their future. Insurance is part of that, but it can still feel complex or hard to relate to. This partnership helps open up the conversation by giving young people the chance to ask questions, share their views and help shape discussions on insurance, pensions and financial literacy.

NextGen spotlight video competition: Why Insurance Matters

A new part of the partnership in 2026 is the NextGen spotlight video competition: Why Insurance Matters, co-organised by Insurance Europe and the EYP. The competition invites people aged 18 to 35 to create a short video explaining what insurance is and why it matters in everyday life.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday 30 April 2026. Pre-selected entries will be invited to Insurance Europe’s International Conference in Brussels on 28 May 2026, where the finalists’ videos will be shown and the winner will be chosen through a live audience vote.

Bringing insurance into the conversation at the EYP's 104th International Session

In March 2026, Insurance Europe took part in the European Youth Parliament’s 104th International Session in Pordenone, Italy, contributing to discussions on financial literacy and the role of insurance in young people’s lives.

Through an opening speech, an “Ask Me Anything” session and an expert discussion, Insurance Europe engaged directly with 250 young people from 35 European countries on insurance, risk and real-life financial decisions.

These exchanges underlined the importance of open dialogue and of ensuring that young people’s perspectives help shape the broader conversation on financial education.

Building the partnership

Since its launch in 2024, the partnership has already brought young people’s perspectives into several important discussions.

One key area has been pensions. The EYP developed a position on pensions in Europe during its International Sessions in Thessaloniki in 2024 and The Hague in 2025. Insurance Europe also contributed experts to these discussions, helping young people explore pension challenges and fairness between generations.

Insurance Europe also held InsurVision, a one-day innovation lab in partnership with the EYP, during its 15th International Conference in Brussels on 5 June 2025. It gathered nearly 60 young people from 22 European countries who discussed and presented their expectations of the insurance industry.

These activities have helped build a partnership that is not based on one-way communication, but on exchange, participation and practical discussion.

Europe-wide survey: young people say buying insurance should be simpler and smarter

A Europe-wide survey in 2025 explored young people’s experiences and views of the insurance industry. Organised by Insurance Europe and the EYP, the survey was open to residents of 41 European countries aged 16-34.

➡️ 57% did not find buying insurance as an easy process

➡️ 82% are willing to pay more for better coverage/benefits

➡️ 82% feel they did not receive enough financial education at school to make informed insurance decisions

➡️ 73% believe that even small investments are worthwhile

➡️ 79% want insurers to play a greater role in promoting responsible behaviour, and most are open to sharing data

Connecting to wider financial literacy work

The partnership with the EYP fits naturally into Insurance Europe’s wider work on financial literacy.

Financial and insurance literacy means having the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand money and insurance, so people can make informed choices throughout life. Insurance Europe’s #InsureWisely work and its “Let’s talk insurance” conversation cards aim to make discussions about money, risk and protection more practical, open and accessible.

By linking youth participation with wider financial literacy work, the partnership helps make sure that young people are not only informed, but also heard.
